Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Who's achievements stand up the best?

Fa cup final a promotion & ninth place in Pl in 3 years versus
Europa cup semi 6th & 7th place in PL

Prior to Tevez & Mascherano arriving Pardew had a somewhat weaker squad and less resources than Moyes although Dean Ashton was one exception and would walk into the current side.

Two very different characters and both flawed in there own way.

Fuck me, theres some rose tinted glasses on here.

Those of us lucky/unlucky enough to be old enough to witness 'Pardews acheievements' as they have now become know, were carried out by the team in spit of Pardew.

The bloke was tactically bankrupt, and the teams efforts were solely the reaswon we managed what we did in that great season. That along with a couple of magical players who we were very lucky to have - I'm thinking mainly Ashton here, were the reason we did

before anyone says Pardew signed them - he didnt.

Pardew got us to a Final ... So in my book he is one step up

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Given that Pards (or Bilic) couldn’t get beyond qualifying rounds of the Europa, where as Moyes beat Lyon & Seville on the way to the semi. It’s a pretty simple answer. Moyes has been the best manager we’ve had since Redknapp, if not since Lyall. As a 40 year old I don’t remember anything of Lyall, just Macari, Bonds, Redknapp and on.

Moyes did very well. But as has been said a thousand times on here already - he doesn’t know how to get the best out of the most talented player on the books anymore. He doesn’t know how to get the best out of this squad. Question is now, will the board write off the money yet again (Vlasic, Anderson, Haller) or will they appoint someone who can get the best out of Scammaca & Paqueta?

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
and as for Moyes - he has come ion twice, in challenging circumstances, eventually turned round a sinking ship twice and had some moderate success against the low bar we seem to have accepted for ourselves.

Clearly his stock has now drifted somewhat in 2022 - but you want to compare the two?

no comparison

'as for Moyes - he has come ion twice, in challenging circumstances, eventually turned round a sinking ship twice'

That's a stretch. He took over from Bilic who had 9 points from 11 games, which is only 2 less than Moyes had after 11 games this season.

The second time he got 20 points in 19 games, 1 more point than Pellegrini had after 19 games.

I'd also say Pardew came in under far more challenging circumstances.

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Pardew did well to bring in Ashton and Benayoun who were two top top players. Our team now is far superior but so are the other teams in the prem compared to what they use to be.

Moyes is the better manager overall but in terms of what they have done for us then Moyes edges it slightly.

Both have given us incredible games and results that we will never forget.

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Oh come on, let's not get silly, Moyes is a way better manager than Pardew ever was, I doubt Man Utd would have even employed Pardew to cut the half time oranges.

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Let's not forget, Pardew took two season, to gain promotion and then only via the play offs.

Moyes has saved us from relegation twice, as well as his European forays.

Moyes has done much better, but will ultimately suffer the same fate, not being able to get the most, out of better players. Pardew hardly picked Mascherano and it took Curbs, to get the best out of Tevez.

Nagel 8:56 Tue Nov 15
Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Can't believe that people are still trotting out this Moyes twice saving us from relegation bollocks.

When he took over from Bilic there were TWENTY SEVEN games left in the season. At the time we were just SIX points off 10th place. I don't see that things would have ended up much different if Bilic had stayed on (apart from that we wouldn't have wasted £10m on Hugill).

When he took over from Pellegrini we'd had a bright start to the season (5th place after 7 games, Haller scoring 4 in his first 7) and then Fabianski's injury and the useless backup fucked it all up. Moyes came in just when Fabianski was back and still only managed ONE more point than Pellegrini had in his 19 games in charge. And it's pretty obvious that Moyes wouldn't even have had that many if not for the lockdown. If anything COVID saved us from relegation that season.

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Pardew had a crap side.
His second season was crap also only the last 8 games it clicked and thats only because of injuries to Daily, Bywater and another. Elliot Ward came in with Anton and CB and Walker in goal which all clicked in the first team.

We had a fantastic Prem the next season and Cup final then season after that was it, crap again!
Bottom of the league for so long that season. That was worse than any Moyes team

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Ashton > Scamacca
Benayoun > Pacqueta
Green = Fabianski
Tevez > Antonio
Mascherano = Rice

Nagel 11:24 Tue Nov 15
Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
We were bottom of the league just once in that season, and that was three months after Pardew had been sacked. We'd only been 18th for 2 weeks before Curbs took over, and Curbs didn't bring us out of the bottom 3 until there was 2 games left to go.

In any case you can't compare Pardew's team vs Moyes'. Most of Pardew's were either Championship players or veterans. Nothing like the team of expensive international players we have now.

Re: Alan Pardew v David Moyes
Both Bilic and Pellegrini were relieved of their duties because the owners felt that keeping faith with them would probably lead to relegation.

The owners are not afraid to act after learning a costly lesson by mistakenly keeping hold of Avram Grant. Under their stewardship we have been where we are now on three previous occasions so where do they go from here? Twice in the past they have turned to Moyes to steady the ship and it has worked out for them. The fact is that when they stayed loyal to a manager, Grant, we went down and when they made a change we survived. For that reason I think that the owners will bring someone new in.

It’s Moyes eot, purely because he’s changed all those negative cultures around the club like he promised….
